Description

Anvil Game Studios is a game development company based in Malta with an international team of passionate individuals. We independently developed and published our debut title ‘Holdfast: Nations At War’ and a free WW1 total conversion DLC ‘Holdfast: Frontlines’ - A multiplayer first and third person shooter set during the great Napoleonic and WW1 eras. Massive battles with over 150 players per server take place in the game. We are now set on bringing the Holdfast experience to larger audiences which is why we decided to launch it on Playstation and Xbox consoles.

History

Before Anvil Game Studios

Back during the early months of 2014, twin brothers Julian and Andrew Farrugia started working on an early concept for what would eventually become the studio’s first title - ‘Holdfast: Nations At War’. After their involvement in developing a DLC for ‘Mount and Blade’, they set their sights on getting a programmer involved to complete the core team.

The Start of Anvil Game Studios

Malta is a relatively small island and it sometimes seems like everybody knows each other. Therefore it did not come as a surprise that a friend of the brothers quickly introduced them to programmer Andreas Grech. This led to the start of Anvil Game Studios in June 2014.

Onwards

Since then the team has been growing by bringing together an international team with various skill sets. The studio released ‘Holdfast: Nations At War’ through Steam Early Access in 2017. Having spent more than three years pushing updates to deliver on the promises set out in the roadmap all the while acting on feedback put forward by its dedicated community, the team successfully released ‘Version 1.0’ in March 2020 winning multiple awards. The year 2022 marked a big milestone for Anvil Game Studios surpassing 1 million total copies sold and the release of a free total-conversion DLC for Holdfast titled ‘Holdfast: Frontlines’. Frontlines was created as a heartfelt thank you to our community for their unwavering support and it propelled our playercounts to record highs. In 2024 Holdfast got its official support for the handheld console Steam Deck used as a testing ground for one of the studio's upcoming largest releases.

Towards Consoles

After 9 dedicated years of developing the IP, the studio is excited to announce that it will expand the Holdfast experience to a wider audience by launching the game on the PlayStation 5 / Pro and Xbox Series S / X consoles on July 9th 2025 with full cross-play support.
